 Fabulous treatment for dry/damaged/color-treated hair that likes proteinMar 03, 2010

My review is for AUTHENTIC K-Pak reconstructor (and if you don't get it from a salon/authorized dealer, you can't know if it's the real thing, honestly). It's tops in terms of protein treatments I've tried for my very dry, porous, color-treated hair. The real product is best used in a way that allows for at least 25 or more minutes of it with a processing cap and under a hood for heat or with a heat therapy cap. It MUST be followed by a deep conditioner for best results. This is not a conditioner. It's a reconstructor. The conditioner should FOLLOW.
If your hair is not happy with protein (coarse hair tends to react BADLY to a lot of protein), steer clear. But if you have fine hair or damaged/color-treated hair of medium texture or know your hair loves protein, try this. It's great. Gives softness and shine that lingers.
But get it from an authorized seller best to avoid getting bad product or old product (check the Joico site online for authorized sellers). Or, if you want to save money, there's a knock-off/dupe version done by Sally Beauty that has identical ingredients (it seems) and many gals I know rave about. Me, I stick to the original just to be safe. :) This thing does what it says it will do. It's great.

I have damaged my hair so much from over-dying over the years. I didn't think there was anything that could help - and I have tried so many different conditioners. Joico K-PAK Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor has done what no other conditioner had - it made my hair soft again. Directions say to leave it in for five minutes and that is enough time, but the longer you leave it in, the softer your hair will be. This is not an over night cure. It took about a month for my hair to really start to show some decent improvement.

When I received this product, it was all weirdly textured, like it was very old. It was broken down and smelled weird. I used it anyway, might as well have used Suave. I have purchased this product from salons in the past and LOVED it, so I know that this stuff was either very old or fake. BEWARE!

This product was recommended to me by two different hair stylists after my hair was severely damaged. I have fairly long, naturally dark brown hair that has been highlighted with blond multiple times. Typically, different parts of my hair were either colored or bleached approximately every 3 months. A few months ago, at my insistance and to my stylists dismay and disapproval, we permed it as well to try and tame natural curl. Although we used a perm for color-treated hair, watched the timer very carefully, and my hair appeared to be in good condition prior to the perm, afterward, we were unable to brush or style my hair due to the changes in the hair structure. My hair was so damaged, that simply brushing it caused it to stretch like a rubber band. Some would break, and what did not break turned into kinky "z"s. Several people declared that there was no way to save it, and it would have to be cut short. However, after the recommendations from my friends, I ordered these products (Joico K-Pak Reconstruct Shampoo, and Penetrating Reconstuctor). The improvement was evident after the first use. After two weeks, I was able to carefully blow-dry and style. After two months, there is dramatic improvement, and my hair is almost back to normal. Although I can say that everyone will have the same results, I can say that I'm a believer and will continue to use these products!

I am an avid Joico fan. I love the entire K-Pak line. And this is no exception. I love the smell and what's even better is the way it works. It really repairs your hair. I do hair and I dye mine at least one a month. From blonde to brown to red to whatever. So my hair gets a beating. This has saved my hair. With all of the processing and dying I do, my hair would be in complete split ends and totally dry if not for this. And the price isn't bad. For the improvement it will make on your hair it's worth every penny. And a little goes a long way. I use this about 2-4 times a month and leave it one for about 10 minutes. You will notice the difference right away.
I also love using it when highlighting clients hair. I squeeze a little dallop into my mixing bowl and mix it right in with the bleach. This really makes a difference. And does not damage the hair as much when highlighting. I would recommend this to anyone who straightens, curls, blow dries or color their hair.
